Backman & Company Pty Ltd is a family business that was formed by Alan Backman in 1978 as a residential construction business, originally known as Backman Homes Pty Ltd. The business undertook extensions, subcontract work as well as building complete houses. In the 1980s the business grew to focus on volume house building at the quality end of the market, with the number of single dwellings completed each year ranging between 30 and 96. Alan and his wife Julie then transitioned the company in the early 1990s to build high end, prestigious homes and also to provide construction consultancy and project management services.

Backman & Company now operates as a property development company and our construction arm, Backman Construction Company Pty Ltd, undertakes single dwelling residential building works with an uncompromised focus on design and quality. In recent years, a number of the high end dwellings built for clients have later sold for well in excess of $10million.

Alan has over 40 years of experience in the construction industry. He is a registered domestic and commercial builder, a highly skilled tradesman and a member of the Master Builders Association. Alan's attention to detail and impressive body of work has earned him an unsurpassed reputation for quality, particularly in the City of Boroondara area.

In 2013, Alan's son Christopher joined the company and brings further experience, knowledge and exuberance to the family business. Prior to this he worked for a large commercial builder, Kane Constructions, for 6 years as a Contract Administrator on numerous projects ranging from $2million to $30million in construction value. Now a co-director of Backman & Company along with Alan, Christopher is also a registered commercial builder and has bachelor degrees from the University of Melbourne in Property & Construction (Construction Management) as well as Commerce (Finance).

Together, Alan and Christopher's mix of skills and experience in project management, development and construction make them a great team. They are both looking forward to continuing to complete premium quality projects that they are proud of in both the commercial and domestic fields.
